Raw vs Edit

Take a look at how this image is transformed without any presets or filters. Adjusting a few simple levels using adobe camera raw to bring out the colour and detail in the raw image.

When I captured the image I wanted it to be quite bright so I could capture all the details of the rain drops falling, I knew that in the edit I could then easily bring the dark colours back down while preserving the bright raindrops.

This is one of my favorite images of the 2025 athletics world championships, nojo18 standing in the rain with his fist in the air just before the 4 x 100m final.

Final image I couldn’t choose one so combined 2 of the moments.
One with eyes closed, strong and peaceful.
One looking up to the stands strong and powerful.
✨✨✨

Patience and attention:
Sometimes in sports we are tempted to grab quick pictures of everyone competing.
I love to hold the focus on a single athlete especially during the start…I want to feel and live that moment with them…the pressure, the pride, the nervous energy..there are always beautiful moments that happen but only for a split second and if you are patient..the right image will appear to you.

In this image I was focused on Noah for atleast 5 minutes at the 100m start as he was the final leg of the relay. The rain making the image even more beautiful.

Which moment would you have chosen from this sequence?

Adobe bridge view of the sequence, you can see a big difference between the raws and a simple levels edit.

Using sonyalpha a9III with a 300mm f2.8 lens.
Shooting from low down behind the barriers just catching Noah’s upper torso with the night sky and rain as a backdrop.
