In Focus: Christian Marclay’s ‘Sleeves and Covers’ series at White Cube Paris ✨⁠

For ‘Sleeves and Covers’, Christian Marclay works with 7", 10" and 12" vintage record sleeves and covers from the 1950s and 1960s, creating unique monotype impressions on paper.⁠
⁠
The artist applies ink directly to the original record packaging before passing it through a roller press. The resulting ‘ghost image’ captures traces of the original sleeve, including its imagery, folds, creases and signs of wear and tear. ⁠
⁠
The sleeves and covers are arranged in grids, their spare typographical designs reflecting a time when marketing records through the musician’s likeness was not yet common.⁠
