Are you being interrogated or questioned by police? How do you know? Simple. Ask if you can leave. If they say yes, then do it and be quiet. If they say no, you are being detained and have a right to not incriminate yourself (that pesky 5th Amendment). Be even more quiet after you ask for a lawyer. Say these words: "I want a lawyer." And then shut up. If you're innocent, be as quiet as a church mouse. You can't talk your way out of this. If you're being detained and interrogated, you are a suspect and cops will only look for evidence of your guilt. Period.
