Arizona has received a “C” rating for maternal mental health for the 4th year in a row, according to the 2026 Maternal Mental Health State Report Card. Arizona has received a C every year since the report cards first launched in 2023.

The report looks at how well states support pregnant women and new moms through things like mental health screenings, access to specialized providers, treatment programs, insurance coverage, paid leave and childcare.

Arizona was credited for adding a perinatal psychiatry consultation program and other improvements, but still falls below the recommended number of specialized maternal mental health providers and does not have a dedicated inpatient or residential maternal mental health program.

Arizona also received just 1 out of 5 stars for parental support in the report’s new category looking at paid leave and affordable, accessible childcare. Nationally, no state received an A this year.
Do you think Arizona does enough to support new moms?
