Phoenix had waited 17 years for this moment.

On June 9, 1993, the Suns took the floor inside America West Arena for Game 1 of the NBA Finals against Michael Jordan and the two-time defending champion Chicago Bulls.

The starting five introduced that night was Kevin Johnson, Dan Majerle, Richard Dumas, Charles Barkley and Mark West.

This was Barkley’s first season in Phoenix, and he completely changed the franchise. He averaged 25.6 points, 12.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists, won NBA MVP and led the Suns to a league-best 62-20 record during their first season at America West Arena.

Phoenix ultimately lost Game 1, 100-92, but the series became one of the most unforgettable in Suns history. The Suns won a triple-overtime classic in Chicago and forced the series back to Phoenix, where John Paxson’s three with 3.9 seconds left in Game 6 ended their championship run.

For anyone who experienced it, this introduction still brings back a different feeling.

Who remembers watching this team, and who was your favorite player from the 1993 Suns? 👀
