🔎 TODAY’S DAILY SIFT: THE BODY

Medicine is learning to detect disease earlier than ever.

Now it has to prove that earlier means better.

Today an FDA advisory committee reviews GRAIL’s Galleri blood test.

One blood draw designed to detect signals from more than 50 cancers.

FDA staff found no major outstanding analytical or primary safety concerns. 

But here is the part that matters.

Galleri detected only about one third of cancers diagnosed during one year of follow up and fewer of the earliest stage tumors.

A major UK trial also failed to significantly reduce late stage cancer diagnoses. 

That exposes a larger longevity problem:

Measurement is not outcome.

Meanwhile obesity medicine is evolving.

Viking reported patients maintaining up to 97% of previous weight loss with dosing every two weeks and roughly 90% with monthly dosing.

Novo believes pills could eventually capture half the obesity market. 

The market is shifting from maximum weight loss toward durability.

Maintenance.

Convenience.

Adherence.

Metabolic health.

The future of prevention will generate enormous amounts of information about our bodies.

The winners will prove which information is worth acting on.
