Just when you thought data centers couldn't cause more trouble than they already are: An underwater AI data center could be coming to Cook Inlet, Alaska.

A preliminary permit application for the proposed data center is being considered by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Up to 1,650 acres of marine habitat could be developed with hundreds of tidal turbines and server hubs — right in the heart of critical habitat for endangered Cook Inlet beluga whales.

Beluga whales rely on sound for almost every aspect of their lives and they're exceptionally sensitive to underwater noise and development.

The vessel traffic and underwater surveying just from the proposed studies — not to mention the actual data center development — would threaten the survival of these critically imperiled whales.

Don't let Cook Inlet belugas become the latest casualty of the data center boom.

Tell the commission to deny this preliminary permit application. Please speak up at ➡️ biodiv.us/belugas
