🚨 LIVE tomorrow, September 28th! 🚨

On episode #445 of Dave Tate’s Table Talk Podcast, Dave sits down with Evan Barr.

Evan Barr is the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance and Director of Football Strength & Conditioning at the University of Toledo. He has spent more than seventeen years in the field and has never done a long-form interview until now.

Barr grew up a farm kid in Madisonville, Tennessee, played basketball before football, and walked on for two seasons at the University of Tennessee under head coach Phillip Fulmer. He earned his degree in exercise science there in 2011, interned at Tennessee and Furman, and ran the floor at Performance QSA in Greenville, South Carolina, before being handed something most coaches never get: in the fall of 2012, he built the strength program at Reinhardt University for a football team that had not yet played a game.

From there, he spent eight years as Director of Strength & Conditioning at Western Carolina, where he helped turn a program that had won nine games in five years into a back-to-back top-three finisher in the Southern

Conference, and where he developed cornerback Keion Crossen into a 2018 NFL Draft pick and a Super Bowl LIII champion. In 2021, he moved to Mercer, oversaw a staff of eight across seventeen sports, and helped build the most successful stretch in Bears history: four straight top-25 finishes, a program-record 11-3 season, back-to-back Southern Conference titles, and defensive end Andrew Zock’s 2025 Buck Buchanan Award as the best defensive player in FCS football. Across his career, he has coached 101 all-conference selections, 21 All-Americans, three conference players of the year, an NFL draft pick, and five players who made NFL rosters.

He was inducted as a Master Strength & Conditioning Coach by the CSCCa in 2025 and holds the CSCS certification through the NSCA.

In May 2025, at its peak, his right quad stopped firing. L3-L5 stenosis and herniated discs. He was told surgery was non-negotiable. He didn’t have it.
