HOT TAKE: So many traditionally low rep, low weight studios are now offering strength classes and I love it. But when more and more studios start adapting a format, the modality can start to get a little diluted and sometimes used in ways that don’t actually match what it is. The label gets adopted before the programming really supports it. Adding heavier dumbbells doesn’t automatically make something strength training. Neither does slowing down a Pilates class, adding ankle weights, or throwing “strength” into the class name. There’s a difference between a class that uses weights and a class that’s actually programmed around progressive overload, recovery, intentional exercise selection, and getting stronger over time. Hot take: if everything is strength training, nothing is strength training. 👀
