Bartolo Colón put together one of the most unique careers in baseball. He spent 21 seasons in the majors, won the 2005 AL Cy Young, made four All-Star teams and finished his career with 247 wins, 2,535 strikeouts and a 4.12 ERA. And somehow, he kept pitching effectively well into his 40s.

Then came the moment that made him legendary. On May 7, 2016, at 42 years old, Colón stepped into the box against James Shields and crushed a 97-mph pitch over the left-field wall. It was the only home run of his entire MLB career, making him the oldest player ever to hit his first career homer. The fact that it came from a pitcher who had just 25 career hits before that swing made it even crazier.

But Big Sexy became a fan favorite for more than his numbers. His personality, hilarious reactions and ridiculous defensive plays made him one of baseball’s most lovable characters. From his time with the Mets to his later years around the league, fans couldn’t get enough of him. Colón wasn’t the most athletic-looking player on the field — and that’s exactly what made moments like this so unforgettable.
