I saw an excellent video from thenoblebarberpodcast asking: are we evolving, or are we broken?

Perhaps some parts of the model need to break for us to evolve.

The shop used to be the route to the barber. Now clients can find the individual, see their work and book them directly. The person can move quickly. The shop still carries the lease, the costs and the empty chairs.

And the early data coming through goroqit is telling me something uncomfortable: the jobs market is in deep trouble. Posting another vacancy won’t solve it if the offer no longer fits what people need.

One barber may only need a chair for their clients. Another needs help building a clientele. Someone else wants to teach, make content or create something with a brand. Why offer them all the same deal?

I think the next shop starts by asking: “What do you need from us?”

It offers a safe place to work, clear terms, useful perks, a community of peers and opportunities to build together. Hair remains the foundation. What we build around it could be the future.
