8 years ago today, DJ Snake, Selena Gomez, Cardi B and Ozuna released ‘Taki Taki.’

DJ Snake set out to make a proper reggaeton club record, and recruited Ozuna first, fresh off winning Top Latin Artist at the 2018 Billboard Latin Music Awards. He produced 'Taki Taki' alongside STANY, with a writing team that also included Selena Gomez and Cardi B, before it arrived through Geffen and Interscope as the second single from his second studio album, 'Carte Blanche.' Cardi B first confirmed the project that July without naming her collaborators, and after Ozuna revealed the title on Instagram, DJ Snake announced the release date and cover art that September.

Ozuna opens the bilingual moombahton and reggaeton track in Spanish before Cardi B and Gomez each trade verses in both English and Spanish, blending Latin rhythms with DJ Snake's signature EDM sensibility. Colin Tilley directed the accompanying video, filmed in Los Angeles that August and released that October, staging the four artists in a stylized, apocalyptic world of lava-filled craters and stormy landscapes, with Gomez singing her verse from a calm forest and DJ Snake lounging on the hood of a car.

The single reached number one in sixteen countries and topped the Spotify Global chart for over four straight weeks, making Cardi B the first female rapper to lead that chart. It went on to earn quadruple-platinum certification in the US and Diamond status in France, became the first billion-stream Spotify song for both Gomez and Ozuna, and collected nine music awards, cementing 'Taki Taki' as one of the defining Latin crossover hits of 2018.
