Libya's public school year has been indefinitely postponed after teachers and administrators launched a nationwide strike demanding fairer pay.
Educators, among the lowest-paid government employees, earn between $170 and $400 a month, compared with military personnel who can earn up to $2,000.
The strike affects nearly 600,000 teachers and administrators and more than 1.6 million students across 5,300 public schools.
Staff are also demanding medical insurance equal to other public-sector workers, with the government yet to meet their demands.

Al Jazeera’s Malik Traina reports from Tripoli, Libya.
