AI gets a lot more useful when you stop expecting it to know what you want from one sentence.

Three prompts worth saving:

1. Make it write the prompt.

Give it your goal, parameters, and resources, then have it build the instructions:

“My goal is [goal]. My requirements and constraints are [details]. The resources I want you to use are [sources, files, or tools]. Write a complete prompt I can paste into a fresh chat. Include the context, steps, output format, and what a successful result should accomplish. Ask me for any missing details first.”

Review what it writes, fill in any gaps, then run it in a new chat.

2. Make it interview you.

If you don’t know exactly what you want, or the answers keep missing the point, let it ask YOU the questions:

“Before producing another answer, ask me up to five questions, one at a time, to clarify what I need and how I’ll use it. Use each answer to guide your next question. Then summarize the output you recommend so I can confirm before you begin.”

It’s easier to answer a good question than explain why an entire response feels wrong.

3. Show it what good looks like.

Give it an example you like instead of asking for “better” or “less robotic”:

“Here’s a reference: [example]. What I like about it is [specific qualities]. Apply those qualities to my draft below, especially the tone, structure, and level of detail. Don’t copy the wording or bring over facts from the example. Preserve my meaning and don’t add unsupported claims.”

This works for a short message, a detailed outline, or anything where you know a good result when you see one.

Save these for your next “no, that’s not what I meant” moment. Replace the brackets with your details and try whichever fits.
