When John Hinckley opened fire on President Ronald Reagan in 1981, Secret Service agents had only seconds to react.

Agent Timothy McCarthy immediately moved between Reagan and the gunman, making himself as large as possible. He was struck by a bullet.

At the same time, Special Agent in Charge Jerry Parr grabbed Reagan and pushed him into the presidential limousine, getting him out of the line of fire.

John talks about the training, instincts and split-second actions that helped protect the president that day.

The official investigation later praised Parr, McCarthy and the other agents for reacting as they had been trained.
