On September 18, 2000, 75-year-old Jim Campbell went to the Merrimac Marina in Sunset Hills for what was supposed to be a meeting at 8:00 that morning.

He never came home.

Campbell had spent much of his retirement at the marina, fishing, boating and visiting with people he knew there. The day before his death, he told a friend he had to meet someone at the marina the following morning. He didn't know who he was meeting, but he had written down the location and time.

At approximately 8:00 a.m. the next morning, a gunshot was heard. Campbell was found on the dock with a shotgun wound. He was able to provide investigators with a limited description of the person who shot him, but his injuries were severe. He remained hospitalized for approximately six weeks before ultimately dying from his injuries.

In this special episode, we sit down with Sunset Hills Police Detective Sergeant John Peisker to take a closer look at the investigation and the questions that remain unanswered 26 years later.

John walks us through what investigators know about Campbell, the Merrimac Marina, the witness who reported seeing the shooting, a shotgun that was never recovered and a man who was questioned multiple times and became a person of interest in the case.

There was also evidence of criminal and drug activity in the area at the time, raising another important question: Did Jim Campbell see or hear something he wasn't supposed to?

Perhaps most importantly, investigators believe there are still people who may know something about what happened that morning.

If you were around the Meremac Marina on Old Gravois Road in 2000, kept a boat there, spent time at the marina, knew Jim Campbell or remember anything about the people and activity around the marina at that time, the Sunset Hills Police Department wants to hear from you.

Even information that may seem insignificant could be important.

This case is being investigated by the Sunset Hills Police Department. Tips can also be provided through Crime Stoppers or by contacting the Sunset Hills Police Department through its Facebook page.

Jim Campbell's family has waited more than two decades for answers. Maybe someone watching this knows something that can finally help provide them.
