Today, we are crowning American engineer, astronaut, and former director of NASA’s Johnson Space Center, Dr. Ellen Ochoa, as our #QueenoftheWeek 👑

In 1993, Ochoa made history as the first Hispanic woman to travel to space, embarking on a nine-day mission aboard the space shuttle Discovery. Over the course of four space flights, she spent nearly 1,000 hours in orbit, working as a mission specialist, flight engineer, and robotic arm operator.
In 2013, Ochoa made history again when she became the first Hispanic director and only the second woman ever to lead NASA’s Johnson Space Center. During her five-year tenure, she championed innovation and inclusion while helping lead the center’s human spaceflight efforts. Her groundbreaking contributions have also earned her numerous honors, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Today, Ochoa continues to champion the next generation of women scientists, engineers, and explorers, particularly those from underrepresented communities pursuing careers in STEM.

Thank you, Queen, for breaking barriers and inspiring the next generation to reach for the stars. 💜 #SIXBroadway #SIXUSTour
