UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham says he wants to avoid “crude cuts” when attempting to reduce the cost of the welfare system.

The PM told the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg that although he would like to reduce the welfare bill, making reckless cuts to one area could cause people to "appear in a different part of the system".

Government data forecasts the UK will spend £353bn on welfare benefits this financial year.
