French President Emmanuel Macron has called on Europe to rediscover the courage of its founding fathers and resist withdrawal and the return of divisive nationalisms. Speaking in Metz at a meeting on European integration and peace attended by Pope Leo XIV, Macron welcomed the pontiff to what he called "the thousand-year-old heart of Europe." He described a Europe that "protects, unites, and acts," sovereign and democratic, and said it must find the courage to become the power for peace, independence and democracy it is meant to be. That courage, he said, means not giving in to "withdrawal, to hatred of others." #Macron #France #Europe #EU #PopeLeoXIV #Metz #Nationalism #Peace
