Insulting police could now cost you BIG in Montreal 😳 Could other Canadian cities be next? 👀🇨🇦

Montreal has moved forward with a controversial new bylaw targeting insults, intimidation, harassment and other abusive behaviour directed at police officers and other municipal employees while they’re on duty. First-time fines can range from $300 to $1,000, with repeat offences potentially reaching $2,000.

The move has sparked major debate over freedom of expression, with civil-liberties advocates warning that terms such as “insult” could leave significant room for subjective enforcement. Similar bylaws already exist in Québec City, Laval, Longueuil and Sherbrooke.

Do you think insulting an officer should ever result in a fine? Thoughts ⁉️🤔⤵️
