Did the they cook⁉️🔥🚂 The Polar Express drifting an entire steam locomotive across a frozen lake is still one of the wildest driving scenes ever put in a Christmas movie.

In the 2004 film, the train reaches an ice-covered section after losing control on the descent through Glacier Gulch.
⠀
With the tracks buried beneath the frozen lake, the locomotive begins sliding sideways across the ice with the entire passenger train behind it.

The engineer and fireman desperately work to regain control while the conductor calls out steering directions from outside the cab.
⠀
The sequence gets even more chaotic as the ice begins cracking beneath the train and they have to line the locomotive back up with the tracks before it gives way.

The frozen-lake sequence was created specifically for the movie and was not part of Chris Van Allsburg’s original 1985 book.
