This tuner scene from Cars might be one of Pixar’s best automotive sequences ever.

Boost, DJ, Wingo and Snot Rod appear on the highway while Mack is struggling to stay awake during the overnight drive to California.
⠀
The four modified street racers surround Mack, blast music and repeatedly mess with him as they cruise down the interstate.
⠀
DJ’s sound system, Wingo’s extreme bodywork, Boost’s nitrous-themed setup and Snot Rod’s blown hot-rod design made the group a perfect animated snapshot of 2000s tuner culture.

Their antics eventually cause Mack’s trailer door to open, allowing a sleeping Lightning McQueen to roll out onto the highway and setting up one of the biggest turning points in the entire movie.

Even nearly two decades later, the neon lighting, ridiculous builds and soundtrack make this scene feel like a love letter to the peak tuner era.
