Whistlindiesel confirmed this 💀😂 This 1999 Toyota Hilux commercial became one of the most iconic and controversial car ads ever made in New Zealand.

Known simply as the “Bugger” ad, it follows a farmer dealing with one disaster after another while his Hilux keeps powering through the chaos.

The entire commercial was built around the idea that the new Hilux was more powerful than before, with that extra capability creating increasingly ridiculous problems around the farm.

Almost every mishap is followed by the same perfectly delivered response: “Bugger.”

When the commercial debuted in 1999, the language caused a major reaction and eventually generated 120 complaints to New Zealand’s Advertising Standards Authority.

The complaints were ultimately dismissed, and the commercial went on to become a genuine piece of Kiwi pop culture.

More than 25 years later, the combination of simple humor, practical stunts and an indestructible-looking Hilux still makes the ad memorable.
