🧠✈️ This tiny pre-flight fuel check can reveal a problem serious enough to keep an airplane on the ground.

Before takeoff, pilots can drain fuel from low-point sumps into a transparent tester to inspect it for water, dirt, sediment and other contamination.

Water is denser than aviation gasoline, so free water can settle underneath the fuel and appear as a separate layer or droplets at the bottom of the sample.

With common blue 100LL avgas, clear water at the bottom can be especially noticeable.

If contamination is found, the fuel system should continue to be drained and investigated until the sample is clean before flight.

Water entering the fuel system can create major problems, including restricted fuel flow, icing and potentially engine failure.

It is a simple check that takes seconds but can prevent a serious problem once the aircraft leaves the ground.

Did you know pilots check their fuel like this before flying?

What are your thoughts? 🤔💭
