🚨 Nissan is officially moving away from piano black plastic and bright chrome after customers made it clear they were tired of fingerprints, smudges, and high-maintenance trim.

Nissan says the decision was “definitely consumer driven,” marking a major shift in how the brand plans to design its upcoming vehicles.

Nissan North America executive Ponz Pandikuthira explained that piano black looks premium when perfectly clean and new, but real-world use quickly leaves it looking terrible.

Anyone who has owned a car covered in piano black knows the problem goes beyond fingerprints, because the glossy surface can also reveal swirl marks, scratches, dust, and practically every imperfection.

The new 2027 Rogue Hybrid is already an example of the new philosophy, ditching piano black interior trim while also eliminating traditional bright chrome from its exterior design.

Nissan is instead exploring subtler finishes including dark chrome, understated paint treatments, and even factory-applied wrap-style treatments on future vehicles.

The company says the broader design direction will favor subtlety instead of huge chrome grilles and oversized shiny trim pieces.

Enthusiasts are getting another potential win too, because Nissan says it does not intend to bury every major vehicle function inside a touchscreen.

The 2027 Rogue Hybrid keeps a physical volume knob, temperature toggles, and dedicated controls for functions including defrost, fan speed, and heated or ventilated seats.
