On this day — September 26, 1982 — Knight Rider premiered on NBC, introducing television audiences to Michael Knight and one of the most famous cars in television history: K.I.T.T. 🏎️🔴 

And there’s a great Universal Studios connection to the story.

Produced by Universal Television, Knight Rider made extensive use of the Universal Studios backlot and soundstages during its four-season run. 

K.I.T.T. even became part of the Universal Studios Hollywood experience! Guests visiting the park could climb into K.I.T.T. and actually “talk” with the famous car — a memorable attraction for Universal guests during the 1980s and into the 1990s. 

44 years later, that red scanner is still instantly recognizable.
