Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt declared the capital a disaster-affected zone on Saturday after over 24 hours of continuous rain caused widespread flooding. Video footage showed residents navigating submerged streets by boat.⁣
⁣
Rainfall exceeded 150 mm (5.9 inches) in areas, leaving business and residential districts, especially near canals — flooded ankle- to knee-deep. Residents stocked up on supplies, and drivers parked on bridges to escape the water. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast through Sunday.⁣
Warning of threats to life and property, the government issued an emergency advisory urging residents near canals to move belongings to higher ground.⁣
