Anti-immigration demonstrators gathered outside a police station in southern England on Thursday following the arrest of activist Daniel Thomas, also known as 'Danny Tommo', a prominent figure in the Patriot Platform nationalist protest network.⁣
⁣
Thomas was arrested over a video that appeared to show him slashing a migrant boat with a knife off the south coast after its passengers had been transferred to a rescue vessel.⁣
⁣
Police charged the 37-year-old with criminal damage after an allegation that a boat was damaged while an emergency responder was on board. He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear in court on Friday.⁣
⁣
Patriot Platform emerged this year through online channels used by right-wing nationalist groups. It says it wants to stop migrants arriving in Britain by small boats and deport those already in the country.⁣
⁣
Earlier this month, several hundred masked supporters disrupted traffic at the ports of Dover and Portsmouth. The UK government condemned the demonstrations as “thuggish.”⁣
⁣
The protests came as 781 people arrived in Britain on Wednesday after crossing the Channel from France in small boats, according to the UK interior ministry – a daily record for the year.⁣
