Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has called for a woman to succeed Antonio Guterres as UN Secretary-General, saying the time has come for the post to go to a woman from Latin America.⁣
⁣
Addressing the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, Sanchez called it "a historic debt we must settle," saying the UN was founded on the promise that all human beings would have a place in the organization.⁣
⁣
Eight candidates are vying to succeed Guterres, who steps down at the end of this year after two five-year terms.⁣
