BREAKING: Being a Reds fan is pain 🫩

Let’s take a look at TJ Friedl’s career as a Red.

From an undrafted free agent in 2016 to the scrappy spark plug at Great American Ball Park, TJ Friedl’s journey as a Cincinnati Red was a fun one and tbh did not end how I expected.

Friedl set a record before even putting on a Reds jersey, signing for $735K, the largest undrafted bonus in MLB history.

When he finally got the call in 2021, he announced himself by hitting a home run for his first career big-league hit.
By 2023, Friedl emerged as Cincinnati’s engine:
• .279/.352/.467 slash line across 138 G
• 18 HR, 27 SB, 8 3B (tied NL lead)
• 117 OPS+ & 3.6 bWAR (most on the entire team btw)
• 118 wRC+ with elite contact rates and non-existent chase percentages
He took the leadoff role and weaponized it. In 2025, Friedl proved he’s one of baseball’s ultimate chaos creators:
• Led ALL of Major League Baseball with 11 bunt hits
• 81 BB / 16 HBP pushing his OBP to a career-high .364
• 247 times on base out of the leadoff spot (3rd in MLB, behind only Shohei Ohtani and Fernando Tatis Jr.)
• 4 leadoff HRs & 152 games played

Whether it’s dragging a bunt down the 3B line, laying out for a dive in center field, or grinding out 9-pitch at-bats, Friedl proved you didn’t need 95th percentile exit velocity to carry a 110+ wRC+ bat. He’s pure Heart & Hustle and literally earned the Reds’ team award for it.

450+ hits, 58 bombs, 60 steals, and endless helmet-flying sprints around the bases.

Thanks for the memories tj_friedl6 🙌🔥
