For this week’s story of #HowWeMetAtRU, we have Joshua & Hannah Morales ✨

"Joshua and I met on spring break of our junior year at Rutgers on a missions trip with Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship to Isabela, Puerto Rico. 

Joshua and I sat next to each other on the flight from Newark to Aguadilla. I was friends with almost everyone going on this trip, but Joshua and I had never met. When he sat down next to me on the plane, I stood up and started searching for a friend who would switch seats with him (I also had assumed he was a freshman for some reason). No one else seemed to think switching seats was a good idea, so I sat down and searched for my headphones. I held my headphones in my hand the entire flight but never listened to any music. Joshua and I talked the entire four-hour flight (which quickly confirmed that we were in fact, the same age). 

Joshua won me over in Puerto Rico with his love for Jesus and his heart for service. We started dating shortly after returning from the trip. We have so many joyful memories of our time at Rutgers, especially our memories with Chi Alpha, Rutgers Day, Rutgers Gardens and the Rutgers Ecological Preserve. After graduating, Joshua in Environmental Science and myself in Industrial Engineering, we relocated to Austin, Texas, where we got married (with many Rutgers friends in attendance) and welcomed our daughter. Now one of our favorite things is going back to Jersey to visit and see the "R" in the Newark airport - literally the place (Newark airport) and the reason (Rutgers) that we fell in love."
