This past weekend was the opening of my first solo-curated exhibit, “On Strike! Shut It Down!: The SF State Strikes of 1968-69.” My brain child is finally out in the world! I couldn’t be prouder of the work my team and I did to develop this exhibit. Thank you to Demille Taylor (@demilletaylor), our talented exhibit designer, for bringing my vision of this project into the real world. Couldn’t have done it without you! Thank you to Alexandria Post and Tanya Hollis for answering endless questions from me, assisting me with research and editing, and for coordinating with the production companies and installation teams. Thank you to Alex Cherian from the Bay Area Television Archive for stitching together the video playing in the gallery. Thank you to everyone who attended the opening and for supporting me this past year!

I stated this project about a year ago and what drew me to the subject was the bravery of the strikers and their determination to change the status quo for themselves and for generations to come. Their stories feel relevant now more than ever. We live in a time where we have an administration that aims to make us feel powerless and isolated but these stories show us that there is power in collective action, in solidarity, and, most importantly, in community. Nobody accomplishes anything alone.

“On Strike! Shut It Down!” is on view now at the Special Collections Gallery on the 4th Floor of the J. Paul Leonard Library. Come see the exhibit in LIB460 Tuesday-Thursday, 10 AM - 4 PM.
