Your commission plan might be why strong reps say no.

Most founders build compensation around where the company is today. Current deal size. Current territory. Current volume.

It feels responsible. But to a strong commission-based rep, it can read like a ceiling.

The problem isn't always the payout percentage. It's that the plan doesn't show where the company is going.

Commission reps are betting on your future. If your comp plan and your pitch don't point toward real growth, the opportunity won't excite the marketplace, and that hurts your conversion rates throughout the recruiting process.

So think big when you design compensation. Recruit into the future growth of the company, not just its current state.

This week, write down where your sales team will be in three years: headcount, territories, leadership roles. Then check whether your comp plan and your recruiting pitch show a rep how they grow with it.
