Very often, when equalization starts to fail, we think the problem is the technique.

But sometimes, the technique is already there.

The real limitation can be muscular control and weakness.

The epiglottis and the muscles involved in opening, closing, and controlling the airway need to be trained just like any other muscle group. If they are weak, tense, or poorly coordinated, equalization can become harder as depth increases.

That’s why I include specific epiglottis training in equalization work: to improve control, coordination, relaxation, and the ability to maintain the right position under pressure.

Technique is important, but technique without muscular control has limits.

Train it regularly around 20 repetitions a day, or use it as part of your warm-up before diving.

Equalization is not only about knowing what to do.
It’s about having the control to do it when the pressure increases.
