Listening to Indigenous voices and learning from their teachings is a responsibility that extends beyond September 30.

On August 28, our men’s and women’s lacrosse teams gathered at Back Campus Fields for the Creator’s Game Workshop, led by Kevin Sandy of the Lower Cayuga Nation, Wolf Clan, and Cam Bomberry, a Mohawk lacrosse player, coach and mentor from Six Nations of the Grand River.

Through traditional teachings, sticks and games, they shared the history, culture and spirituality of lacrosse, deepening our student-athletes’ understanding of its Indigenous roots.

“It was a reminder that lacrosse is about so much more than competition; it is about community, connection, culture, and the experiences and memories we create through the game.”
— Alexi Dokis-Dupuis, women’s lacrosse student-athlete

We are grateful to Kevin and Cam for sharing their knowledge and teachings, and encourage our Blues community to continue listening, learning and reflecting today and throughout the year.

Today, on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, Survivors, their families and communities, and reflect on the ongoing impacts of colonialism.
