Benjamin "Yellow Benjy" Melendeza, former member of the South Bronx gang the Ghetto Brothers, reflects on being inspired by a close friend to break away from gang life to dedicate himself to studying. His goal was clear: to clean up his neighborhood, build a better environment for future generations, and offer something genuine to society. In 1971, he brokered a gang truce in New York City.
