Ron Raccuia ’86, one of the foremost sports business leaders in the country, was the keynote speaker at Friday’s tremendous Legacy Fund Luncheon.

Raccuia, a senior advisor to Altius Sports Partners and Legends Global, shared lessons learned at CHS as well as observations on the multi-billion-dollar landscape of professional and college sports during an enlightening conversation with Director of Alumni Relations Jay Josker ’01.

Longtime assistant baseball coach Paul Smaldone ’60 was the Legacy Fund coaching honoree at this year’s event, held at the Foundry Suites. Assistant to the President Fr. Richard Zanoni, S.J., paid tribute to Smaldone’s decades of dedication to the Crusader program and he was presented with the award by President Fr. David Ciancimino, S.J., and Legacy Fund Chairman Rocco Diina ’96.

Fr. Ciancimino welcomed our guests, and they also heard great updates and visionary plans from new Director of Athletics John Ricotta ’05.

The Legacy Fund Luncheon supports academic scholarships to provide deserving Crusaders with a Jesuit education as well as capital purchases for our athletic department to ensure that our teams remain competitive at the highest levels of high school sports in Western New York.

Among the most recent projects was our new video scoreboard for Koessler Field at the Stransky Memorial Complex.

Students and families interested in the benefits of being part of Western New York’s best alumni network and the excellence only found in a Jesuit education at Canisius – ranked by Buffalo Business First as the Buffalo area’s “Best Catholic School” and WNY’s top private school in “Best High Schools for Athletes” – can learn more by reserving a spot for our Open House on Sunday, Oct. 18 or Monday, Oct. 19 via canisiushigh.org/openhouse

This place is special. Let us show you why.
