It’s known as the cool guy half crack matrix. If you don’t know what it is, then you may not be cool enough. We’ve done breakdowns on this topic before, but it’s been a few years, so here’s a little recap. There are four common visor positions: full crack, half crack, quarter crack, and no crack. This breakdown is primarily when the driver is not actually driving. It’s when the driver is sitting in the pits, garage, or stationary in the car. The more closed the visor is, the cooler the driver looks, or at least that’s what the driver believes. The visor position for the driver can both be practical and stylish. Scroll for the breakdown and captions ->

Visor Position: Full Crack
Coolness: 2/10
Practicality: 10/10
Breakdown: The full crack is reserved for the driver with the least insecurities. They have nothing to hide. They’re confident, they know what they’re doing may not be the coolest, but they know it’s the most practical. Great airflow, great spatial awareness. They feel safe and comfortable. Always available for full eye contact. Think of this person as the one who says ‘hey good morning’ when they see you in an elevator.

Visor Position: Cool Guy Half Crack
Coolness: 7/10
Practicality: 6/10
Breakdown: The cool guy half crack. This is a driver who most likely placed their visor in this position to have that cool factor. They like to leave a little mystery to the passerby. What’s going on in there. I can kind of see your eyes but not really. Is the sun in your eyes or are you just trying to stare at people walking by. Think of this person as the guy who walks into a restaurant and keeps his sunglasses on.

Visor Position: Quarter Crack
Coolness: 9/10
Practicality: 3/10
Breakdown: The quarter crack, this is when things start getting serious. This driver is pretty badass. They know what they’re doing. They know they look cool, but they also know they’re just breathing in hot air that they’re exhaling. Not the most practical, but pretty darn cool. This is the person who wears their sunglasses at night. We all know it’s not serving a great purpose. They’re just committed to the look.

Visor Position: No Crack
Coolness: 10/10
