A Philadelphia couple just became first-time homeowners, thanks to reparations from the descendants of people who once enslaved Black families.

The Green Street Friends Meeting, a Quaker congregation in Germantown, gave Charmira and Quincy Pilgrim a $10,000 grant as part of a program explicitly created as reparations for "the theft and pillaging of Black wealth." Five Black families have received the same grant so far, alongside legal help that's protected millions in property for Black homeowners.

This comes as government led reparations programs face growing pushback, including the Trump administration's fight to block Evanston, Illinois' cash reparations plan.
