Batman has had enough canceled movie projects to fill an entire release calendar.

Over the years, several ambitious Batman films were developed but never made, including a planned follow-up to Batman & Robin, Darren Aronofsky’s radically different take on Batman: Year One, and Wolfgang Petersen’s early Batman vs. Superman project.

Some made it as far as scripts, directors, casting discussions, or other development work before ultimately being shelved. Together, they offer a fascinating look at all the different versions of Gotham and the Dark Knight that audiences almost got to see.
