A glimpse into the life of Léonard Tsuguharu Foujita, the ambitious Japanese artist who moved to France in the early 20th century and became a leading figure of the École de Paris. This month, 15 exceptional Foujita paintings and works on paper will come to auction at #SothebysHongKong.

Here, Sotheby’s Grégoire Billault tells the story of Foujita’s time in Paris, where he worked alongside artists such as Picasso and Modigliani. One of the highlights of The Foujita Lexicon: Works from the Lewis Collection is his self-portrait. It showcases the artist’s Montparnasse persona, presenting the cultural duality that would become the hallmark of his art.
