If you become a stepfather, understand one thing: you're gonna have to put her and her kid in first place in your life, while settling for being third or fourth place in theirs.

You have all the responsibility to provide, protect, sacrifice, and do everything a father should do, but rarely have the authority, appreciation, or respect that comes with actually being the father.

And if you deal with a single mother, things might be good at first. But understand what you're getting yourself into.

A lot of these women come with serious emotional baggage, unresolved trauma, accountability issues, and dysfunctional relationship patterns that didn't magically disappear just because you showed up.

And if she has a history of blaming every man in her past for everything that's gone wrong in her life, don't be surprised when eventually you're the next man who's supposedly responsible for all of it.

You're walking into a family that another man helped create.

You're taking responsibility for a child that isn't yours.

You're expected to provide, protect, sacrifice, and step up like a father while knowing that when shit hits the fan, you may not have the same authority or standing as the biological father.

So before you volunteer to become a stepdad, understand exactly what you're signing up for.

Because you're not just dating a woman.

You're potentially signing up to spend the rest of your life building something that somebody else gets to call theirs.
