Yesterday marked the start of the heycarterbooks digital billboard campaign, and I’m still taking it all in. 💛 Thank you theoaacc, cdaconsulting, and beckerboards for the opportunity to display Hey Carter! exactly where it needs to be. The campaign unexpectedly launched on my birthday, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better gift. Today, I saw the billboard in person for the first time, and I cried.

Blackness. Black joy. Black youth. Black love. Black healing. Black fatherhood.

On billboards.
In Oakland, California.
For our children and our community to see.

Nine years ago, I started Hey Carter! because I wanted Black children, especially Black boys, to see themselves differently. To see themselves celebrated, loved, joyful, and full of possibility. And now that message is literally taking up space across Oakland. Just wowwwww. 🥹💛

If you’re in Oakland, look for us at:

📍 8099 S. Coliseum Way
📍 4701 Oakport Street
📍 3401 East 8th Street
📍 2682 E. 7th Street
📍 1005 7th Street

If you spot one, take a picture, tag heycarterbooks, and help us celebrate this moment.
