Another epic conference matchup tomorrow. 😤

On September 27, 2025, in Williams-Brice Stadium, South Carolina's defense delivered the knockout blow, returning two turnovers for touchdowns on back-to-back plays to pull away from Kentucky 35-13 in an SEC matchup that had been a tight, run-heavy battle through the first quarter and a half.

Kentucky actually struck first, with running back Seth McGowan punching in the game's opening touchdown and celebrating by tossing the ball into the stands in the south end zone. The Wildcats kept gashing South Carolina on the ground, building a 10-7 lead in the second quarter behind a physical rushing attack. But the game flipped in an instant. Kentucky quarterback Cutter Boley was sacked by Dylan Stewart, and the ball popped loose as defensive lineman Jatius Geer scooped it up and rumpled 40 yards for a touchdown. Two plays later, Boley's pass into the secondary deflected off receiver Kendrick Law's hands, and South Carolina's Gerald Kilgore hauled in the carom and sprinted 45 yards the other way for a second straight defensive score, swinging the game to 21-10 in three plays.

"Obviously when you score twice on defense, you're going to be really hard to beat," head coach Shane Beamer said afterward. "We didn't just want to win the turnover battle, we wanted to dominate it." Trailing by double digits, Kentucky tried to get its offense back on track, but South Carolina controlled the rest of the way, finishing with a commanding 341-19 edge in total yards and first downs over Kentucky's 232 yards and 14 first downs, while forcing four turnovers to Kentucky's zero.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers was efficient for South Carolina, completing 11 of 14 passes for 153 yards and rushing for 81 yards, while Vandrevius Jacobs caught five passes for 108 yards. Kentucky's Boley finished 10 of 19 passing with two interceptions. The loss dropped Kentucky to 2-2 overall and 0-2 in SEC play, while South Carolina improved to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play, snapping a stretch of close losses for the Gamecocks heading into their bye week.
