Mississippi State opened SEC play with a dramatic five-set win over LSU, surviving a late Tigers rally to escape with a 25-21, 25-20, 20-25, 22-25, 15-10 victory at the Newell-Grissom Building, remaining undefeated at home on the season.

The Bulldogs set the tone immediately, opening the first set on a 9-0 run and cruising to a 25-21 win, then carrying that momentum into a 25-20 second-set victory to take a commanding two-set lead. LSU refused to go away, battling back to win the third set 25-20 and then edging a tight fourth set 25-22, capitalizing on a string of Mississippi State miscommunications down the stretch to force a decisive fifth set.

Mississippi State regained control in the finale, pulling away to win it 15-10 and close out LSU's reverse-sweep bid. Outside hitter Lindsey Mangelson turned in a record-breaking performance for the Bulldogs, swinging a team-leading 62 times for 23 kills, while Paloma Routaboul added a career-high 13 kills. For LSU, Jurnee Robinson recorded her third straight double-double with 18 kills and 10 digs, adding a block for 18.5 points on the night, though the Tigers struggled at the service line with 10 errors against just two aces.

"What a total team win with all-out effort, some guts, and a whole lot of heart and hustle," Mississippi State head coach Julie Darty Dennis said afterward. "The SEC is tough from top to bottom, and everyone is always going to bring their best. They earned every point in that win."

The loss dropped LSU to 6-5-1 on the season, marking the Tigers' third consecutive five-set match, while Mississippi State opened SEC play 1-0, extending an eight-match winning streak coming into the matchup.
