Ole Miss opened SEC play with a statement sweep of Alabama behind a strong combined effort from Melia Johnson and Jorda Crook, who finished with 22 kills and seven blocks between them.

Ole Miss built an early cushion in the first set, with Johnson and Crook combining for seven kills to help the Rebels take a 12-9 lead, and a Keirstyn Carlton kill pushed the margin to 15-12 at the media timeout. Alabama never found an answer the rest of the way, as Ole Miss closed the set on a dominant run to win it. The second set followed a similar script: Ole Miss jumped out 6-2, weathered an Alabama run, and settled back in to keep the Crimson Tide at arm's length, closing it out while holding Alabama to a -.065 hitting percentage in the frame.

Alabama finally found some life in the third set, opening on a 3-0 run and stretching the lead to 15-9 at the media break, marking the Crimson Tide's best stretch of the match. But Ole Miss stayed composed, chipping away at the deficit and eventually tying it at 19-19. Fifth-year veteran Shayla Meyer helped the Rebels wrestle back control, and Ole Miss delivered the finishing blow with two service aces from Crook and a closing Alabama error to complete the sweep.

As a team, Ole Miss held Alabama to a -.022 hitting percentage for the match, the first time the Rebels have pushed an SEC opponent into negative hitting since a 2017 win over Mississippi State. For Alabama, Laney Hennessee and Kaleigh Palmer each had four kills, with Hennessee adding nine blocks, while head coach Rashinda Reed pointed to passing consistency as an area to clean up going forward.

Ole Miss improved to 7-5 overall and a perfect 1-0 in SEC play, a much-needed response after the Rebels had dropped three straight matches to close out non-conference play. Alabama fell to 8-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play, a tough start to SEC play after having been undefeated at home coming into the match. Alabama looks to regroup on the road, while Ole Miss carries its SEC-opening sweep, 25-17, 25-19, 25-23, into the next stretch of conference play.
