New York Gov. #KathyHochul has appointed the state attorney general’s office as a special prosecutor to oversee the investigation into a woman’s allegations that she was gang raped at a Cornell University fraternity house in October 2024.

The case was initially closed without charges in 2024 but received renewed attention after the woman filed a civil lawsuit last month. Tompkins County District Attorney #MatthewVanHouten reopened the investigation this week amid criticism over how the case was originally handled.

Hochul said newly released information raised “serious questions” about the initial investigation and that she had lost confidence in the local district attorney’s ability to handle the case.
