According to #ChristaPike’s lawyer, a botched attempt at lethal injection used for her execution took a toll on her and, she’s in bad shape but not in a coma. Pike’s attorney told ‘TMZ’, “Christa is critically ill but not in a coma as I understand it.” She was reported unconscious and unable to communicate. Dr. #MarkFowler who administered Pike’s failed execution also presided over another botched attempt back in May. According to legal records, Fowler reportedly had not had a central line in place for 13 years before the scheduled May execution in another case.

Due to Pike’s medical condition of a blood-clotting disorder, her attorneys suggested hanging her instead to avoid her ultimately drowning in her own blood. Pike’s attorney mentioned that her execution warrant expired at midnight which means the Tennessee Supreme Court will have to set a new date before they can try to execute her again. Tennessee Governor #BillLee has called off the remaining executions through the end of the year but Pike’s lawyer notes they could pick a date before the end of the year. However, they expect a decision once the independent investigation is resolved.

Witnesses at the execution reportedly watched two syringes of lethal injection chemicals be dispensed into Christa’s body, however, she was “still breathing and snoring”. Officials removed her from Riverbend Maximum Security Institution to a local hospital after the injection. Her execution follows her 1995 conviction for murder, making her the first woman executed in Tennessee in the last 200 years after the Supreme Court ruled that her execution could proceed. Pike was charged with killing and torturing her former classmate, when Pike was 18, allegedly over comments her then 19-year-old classmate made about her relationship.
