#TSRReactionz: The 2024 case about an alleged rape incident at #CornellUniversity has received additional controversy after prosecutors reopened an investigation into allegations against seven fraternity members. ‘The View’ co-host #SunnyHostin, a former federal prosecutor, received mixed reactions after she argued that the media had portrayed the case unfairly and noted that the men had not been criminally charged or convicted.
______________________________
Hostin discussed New York’s consent law, saying that intoxication or drug use that impairs judgment doesn’t automatically mean someone can’t consent. She referenced Jane Doe’s 2024 report, where she allegedly allowed men to use ketamine in her presence. Doe went to the Chi Phi house after drinking with her sorority sisters, claiming she was intoxicated and sexually assaulted by seven men over hours. The lawsuit alleges alcohol and ketamine were involved, and Doe couldn’t consent then. She filed a 101-page lawsuit against Cornell, the fraternity, and the men, accusing them of failing to protect her. The case includes claims of sexual assault, negligence, breach of contract, and violations of New York law. It follows the DA’s decision not to file criminal charges, which was explained with Doe’s report. ______________________________
The investigation has now been reopened, bringing renewed scrutiny to the allegations, the prosecutor’s previous decision, and the question of how intoxication and drug use are considered when determining whether someone was legally capable of consenting. The allegations against the men remain allegations from a civil lawsuit, and the men have not been criminally convicted of the alleged conduct. 📸:gettyimages (SWIPE) ✍🏾:#TSRStaffJR
