A Tesla Model S reportedly experienced a catastrophic tire failure at roughly 177 mph (285 km/h) while traveling on Germany’s Autobahn, sending the car off the roadway and leaving it heavily wrecked. 😳

Despite the severity of the crash, everyone inside the vehicle reportedly survived.

Video of the incident is now gaining major attention on X, with viewers focusing on what happened after the tire failed, including the car’s stability and how much of the passenger structure remained intact during the impact.

Tesla has played a major role in bringing high-performance electric vehicles and advanced driver-assistance technology into the mainstream. There’s no indication that Autopilot caused or prevented this particular crash, but the incident has certainly sparked discussion about the engineering and safety systems built into the Model S.
And, of course, surviving a crash at that speed also involves a significant element of luck.

According to the person who shared the footage, the tire involved had previously been connected to a Goodyear tread-separation recall.
